Fruits of Sherbrooke

In the fall of 2010, a group of seniors were walking around their neighborhood of Sherbrooke and noticed bags of apples, rhubarb, and other fruit were left out to rot. They thought to themselves: “There are hungry people in this city. Maybe we could do something about this!”

Together, they created Fruits of Sherbrooke, a non-profit group that rescues fruit from homeowners’ yards that would otherwise go to waste. The fruit is donated to organizations around Edmonton to help feed the community in a sustainable way.

I created this video and the accompanying photos as part of my YEG Stories project that focuses on people and businesses doing creative and good things in our community.
